The Sanitary Food Transportation Act regulates shippers, carriers and receivers who are involved in the transportation of human and animal food.  FDA’s proposed regulation, published in the Federal Register on February 5, 2014, has significant impacts on the transportation of food.  The rule requires in-transit temperature monitoring for foods that require time/temperature control for safety, training of drivers on food safety matters, and increased recordkeeping requirements among many other things.  Food that is transported in violation of the regulation is considered adulterated and violations of the regulation are punishable by criminal penalties.  Lieberman PLLC can assist businesses seeking to comply with this new requirement.
