On July  23, 2014, Erik Lieberman of Lieberman PLLC moderated a panel at an event sponsored by the Food and Drug Law Institute.  The event, entitled “Is the GRAS Process Broken?” explored the current functioning of the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) process for  substances in food and whether or not it is in need of modernization.  Lieberman moderated the panel “What’s Next for GRAS v. Food Additive Petitions?” which explored such issues as whether or not labeling of all chemicals found in food should be required on packaging and if FDA should periodically review the status of GRAS substances (and regulatory-approved food additives) to consider changes in usage, technology, or food safety science.
